Art of Peer Pressure Website

This is the link to my website

http://joewhitbread.wix.com/jcwmediaa2

My website was based mostly on Kendrick Lamar's color scheme with Grey and Reds
I have put the most things that are important to a music related website such as sharing the website
or the music, a store and a picture gallery of the artist.

Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of teaser trailers/posters/magazines)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJtXhea_abs

This is a link to a video in which we answer various aspects
of this question in some detail.

Evaluation 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-H0bmR5gpY

This a link to the advert to our music video which at the end shows the
contents of my Digi-Pak and there is montage of scenes from the video
from what is shown it looks like both medias fit in well together as two separate but
related pieces of work.

Evaluation 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

To get are audience feedback, we made 8 people watch are piece and fill out are questionnaire, the people who had filled it out where completely random and we got some mixed opinions from those we had asked.

Pros

- The video does link to its intended audience.
- The effectiveness of some of the shots used
- The song fits the intended genre
- Use of car
- Range of transition and effects
- The characters well chosen

Cons

- Cliche
- The story does not fit together.

Evaluation 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
These Images show us working with both laptop to edit are work and use various programs e.g Wix and Blogger.

The second image shows us working with the camera for various pieces of work.

Media technologies in this piece had helped us greatly in all aspects of are work. For the planning stage we used it to research artists, locations and props a lot of what we saw on the internet had made its way into the the music.

The technology was used obviously in the filming and development  partly for editing and filming but more importantly for the Digi - pak.

When finishing the only technology is only used when updating the the blog.

Final Music Video Making 4

These Images show that we had create various effects such as slowing down clips
and reversing theme to have them show what we wanted for example there is a shot of feet getting out of the car, we reversed that to show the person getting in the car.

Final Music Video Making 3

These images are showing some of the cuts we
where making in the process of re doing the video.

There is also an image displaying the 'just ridin'
clip we had added in during process of editing
there has also been subliminal messages put into the video which are done in a similar style to the
'just ridin' clip.

Final Music video Making 2

These Images show some of the effects options we had
used in our knew redesigned video there are some notable changes
to our videos SFX mostly at the start and driving scenes we added a unfocused filter to give the piece the right atmosphere to start the piece of and for driving scenes we added a camera recording logo to give it the look of a home video.

Final Music Video Making 1

We had finalized are music video and we had some major changes made to the order  in which events took place.

These images shown are examples of when we had started to change the video and had are ideas in place of what and where we had wanted to see the implemented changes.

Music video draft

Website set up change

I have changed the layout of my website as the layout I had been using seemed outdated and when
looking at the websites of mainstream artists, I noticed that they each have a certain defined look to them

This is an example from the Eminem music video  the page opens up to promotional image of both Eminem and Rhianna promoting a new song or album. I went a similar route with my own website when I had made the changes to my piece replacing my menu page with the front cover of my C.D.

I had also looked at dedicating an a page to tour dates, I took that
from other mainstream rappers and other artists websites to add to my own websites plausibility.

Health and Saftey

Are music video features props that look extremely realistic the most obvious of
which was a gun which was used at various points during the video, this gun is a fake
it was a bb gun which was unloaded.

There was another scene showing acts of of physical violence I would like to point out that scene
was acted out no form of assault actually happened.

The driver of are music video was fully qualified to do so and safety precautions where taken even
though it looked otherwise through the video.

Music Website; How I had created it

The Beginning

The base template for my website was a black background I had considered keeping it given that most rap artists make there backgrounds plain and simple but I needed to to make the background presentable, I had tried various backgrounds ranging from graffiti to and unloaded pistol, I had finally settled on using a black white brickwall which had simularities to my CD case.

The Middle

Once my background had been finished, I had started to progress the website adding various sections to the piece e.g. Store and Biography. The store was an example page where I had added some the record labels clothing line onto the website to give it some authenticity. The biography page was very similar to an 'about us' page giving the viewer some basic information about the artists career and talking a tiny bit about his debut album.

The other section  that I had added to the piece was the gallery this page shows nothing but promotional art for the piece.

The End

To finish off the website, I had to create some work on the menu page, I initially intended to add the music video to front page but at the point of designing the website it was unfinished so I substituted it with the music video for the front cover of my digi-pak this has been done on the websites that I had been researching before finishing the website.

Website analysis 3 - Chris Brown

Once Opening the Chris Brown you are met with four photographs which link to
various music videos, this is quite an eye-catching  opening to the website.

The website itself is layed out in quite a stylish yet simple way and perfectly fits with out I wish to
create my website, the website shares a similiar colour pallett to both the Kendrick Lamar and Eminem websites aside from the use of white on the toolbar.

This website is the closest to how want my website to look in terms of colour pallet and the simple layout.

http://www.chrisbrownworld.com/uk

Website research 2 - Eminem

The second website that I had looked at was Eminem. Straight away I noticed direct similarities to Kendrick Lamar's website in terms of its color scheme. One thing I noticed about Eminem's website was the big in your face advertisements for his new album.

In terms of the tool bar  it is the average for the for music websites so there is nothing interesting to note there.

http://www.eminem.com/

Website Research 1 - Kendrick Lamar

Before designing my own website, I thought it necessary to look at the websites of artists who are all in the same genre.

The first artist I looked at was Kendrick Lamar, he is a relativity new artist in the rap genre but his website does not put him across like this at all, the website is professionally done and it contains features that most websites would usually have examples include, a toolbar and links to social networking pages such as twitter.

The color pallet of this website fits the genre perfectly and I would not be surprised if it is used by other artists of the genre, I am going to use a similar color scheme of dark red and black in my own website.

The video's narrative

The art of peer pressure by rap artist Kendrick Lamar has a clearly defined narrative. The song tells the story of a young Kendrick Lamar who is participating in his cousins usual schedule, Kendrick's cousin
is part of the California gang Pirus (Bloods).

The video itself starts of with the gang driving in a car coming across various situations such rival gang members patrolling around and also meeting and flirting with women. The videos climax sees the gang take part in a burglary and getting away from police.

our aim was not to copy the video but to tweak it, make some our own e.g the quick flashes to various scenes in the opening of our video.

analysis of video by class peers

Our class have recently viewed and commented on our Media videos most of the comments we had received were similar to each other these comments included

- some of our shots are getting cut to much in the editing process loosing details
-   unclear/ not sure of story
- matches genre well
- no lip syncing
- good use of effects/ props

The editing in our video is meant to unclear to start of with as it flashes backwards to planning the robbery which is why we have choose to use quick cuts and transitions.

The story of our piece becomes clear towards the end of the video with the robbery taking place at this point.

The Editing Process

we are currently under in process of editing and finalizing our video. we have been using various effects and filters in our video to give the illusion of a flashback or time passing. this can be shown through this image here.
 Screen Shot 2014-01-10 at 13.21.42 (1).png

Here is the image with the effect in place.
Screen Shot 2014-01-10 at 13.24.32 (1).png

This is an image of the video's opening, we used images of of Google maps as they only appear briefly
Screen Shot 2014-01-10 at 13.18.22 (2).png

This last image shows the changes we made to make a daytime shot look dark, we had used a nighttime filter and had lowered the exposure and contrast of of the shot which made the scene look convincing.
